Hello, my name is Lachlan Schofield

Emotional difficulties are an inevitable feature of life.

But such emotions can be very powerful – sometimes in ways which don’t seem to make sense to us – and can make life difficult to manage.  I am curious about what peoples emotions might be trying to tell
them.  Not just about what might be happening around them, but also within them.

Such feelings may arise amidst challenging relationships at home or work, or other life events, resulting in low mood, problematic anxiety or other mental health or wellbeing problems.  A person may also wonder about the impact of the past.  These experiences and ideas can be confusing and difficult to know how to respond to.

Individuals may come with a variety of diagnoses or labels attached – but it is the people themselves who I work with.  I have a particular interest in supporting those with experiences of worry/anxiety and anger, and also to explore identity and foster a greater understanding of self.

My therapeutic style is collaborative and thoughtful, taking the time together with people to properly understand presenting issues and concerns, and finding ways toward emotional growth and a fulfilled and meaningful life.

I use a variety of evidence-based approaches, tailoring these to the unique needs of each specific person. I have a particular interest in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and value the importance of therapy as a safe and holding space, where clients deeper thoughts, feelings and fears can emerge. This tends to be medium to longer term work, as we seek to produce deep and lasting change.

I am also an approved AHPRA Supervisor.
