Our practitioners at VCPS appreciate the diversity within the community, and are passionate in supporting the needs of LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples and their families.
At VCPS we understand that concerns and obstacles related to gender or sexuality can be distressing – not only for individuals, but their family and those that support them as well. Therefore, you may need the support of one of our practitioners as a parent or family member of an LGBTQIA individual, a couple seeking advice, or an individual who would simply benefit from extra support in facing concerns related to your own gender or sexual identity.
Whilst some individuals who identify as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community flourish after embracing their gender or sexual identity, it is not uncommon for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families to experience additional stress and family conflict. Due to the difficulties often faced by members of the LGBTQIA+ community, there are higher rates of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, and drug and alcohol addiction. However, when able to live out their daily lives with both a physical embodiment and a social expression that most closely matches their internal sense of self, LGBTQIA+ individuals live successful, productive lives, indistinguishable from anyone else.
At VCPS we believe in a holistic approach, and therefore it is important that our practitioners understand the stumbles and triumphs of LGBTQIA individuals in order to work with them to tackle any mental health concerns. In being familiar with the experiences and challenges of members of the LGBTQIA community, our practitioners provide a safe and confidential space for individuals to explore their identities and overcome personal challenges.
