What is a Provisional Psychologist?
A Psychologist with Provisional Registration is a practitioner who has completed their tertiary qualifications and is eligible to undertake a program of supervision as they develop their applied skills “on the job”. After this one year of supervised practice, they are eligible to apply for their General Psychologist registration.
All of our Provisionally Registered Psychologists are fully qualified, skilled and knowledgeable in all areas of the services they provide.
Does a provisional psychologist offer the same services as a registered psychologist?
A Provisional Psychologist is in intern practitioner who is in the final stages of becoming fully registered within the Australia Health Practitioner Regular Agency. All Provisional Psychologists are somewhere in their final year years out of the six-year process to becoming a fully registered Psychologist. Psychologists with provisional registration, like a fully registered Psychologist assess peoples thinking, feelings and behaviour to understand how people, communities and society function, and devise strategies to empower them and help them thrive.
All Psychologists are required to meet with a supervisor regularly – but for a Provisional Psychologist it is much more frequent. Being under supervision means the Psychologist has confidential discussions about their therapy implementation with a supervisor who is a senior Psychologist with additional training and has completed a board approved supervisor training program.
Can a Mental Health Care Plan be used with a Provisional Psychologist?
Provisional Psychologists are not eligible to offer Medicare rebates, therefore we ensure your out of pocket fee is a much lower rate than the registered Psychologists in our practice.
