Our TMS Clinic (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is building momentum, and since we launched this service in March 2021 we’ve seen a steady increase in referrals every month. While there are many applications for TMS, the VCPS TMS clinic focuses on treating treatment-resistant depression. TMS involves brief magnetic pulses to specific areas of the brain without side effects.
From a research perspective, increased interest in TMS has seen several studies describes the impact that TMS has on treatment resistant depression. One paper describes a woman who had multiple episodes of treatment resistant depression, who commenced TMS after several trials of anti depressants failed to assist. Post TMS treatment there were significant improvements in both mood and concentration
Our TMS clinic is run partnership with the Neurocentrix team who are highly experienced in the field of neuropsychiatry, and our services are overseen by two of Australia’s most experienced psychiatrists in the field – Professor David Barton and Dr Peter Farnbach.
Whilst TMS is one of our many innovative offerings at VCPS, we also offer more traditional treatment approaches for depression from our multidisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists and wellbeing professionals.
