At VCPS we run a group therapy course for people with social anxiety. The ten-week group program, 75 minutes per week, is designed for students aged 12 to 18 who are struggling with social anxiety related concerns. This group will be facilitated by Clinical Psychologist, Russell Deighton.
The group is intended for people who would like to learn how to cope better with social anxiety and manage different kinds of social situations. This encompasses experiences such as shyness as a barrier to making friends, difficulty asserting oneself in certain settings, difficulty with public speaking, and holding oneself back from making contact with others.
The group aims to be a warm and relaxing environment where participants will learn new ways of thinking, feeling and coping with social anxiety. There will be about eight group members and it is a requirement that participants attend each of the ten weeks.

Payment plans and Medicare rebates are available. You will need a referral from a GP (a Mental Health Care Plan) to receive a rebate for this service, and the total out of pocket expense will be $91.75. There will be an initial $250 up front payment with $31.65 refunded in your bank account each week after group attendance. This Medicare refund will not occur if you do not attend.
