At VCPS, we take a neuro-affirming approach to holistic wellness, integrating both mental and physical health care to support individuals across Australia. We believe in creating an inclusive, supportive environment that embraces the diversity of neurological profiles, including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Bipolar Disorder, and more. Our services are designed to respect and honour neurodivergent individuals by focusing on their strengths and personal goals, rather than pathologising their differences. Our offerings include Medicare-rebated psychology and psychiatry consultations, psychological and neuropsychological assessments, group therapy, childhood assessments, couples counselling, and advanced treatments like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for depression and virtual reality therapy for anxiety, PTSD, depression and pain.
We aim to foster a therapeutic space where neurodivergent individuals feel empowered, supported, and understood, with care tailored to their unique needs.
Neuro-Affirming Care at VCPS
VCPS embraces neurodiversity, recognising the uniqueness of every individual and their neurological profile. We proudly work in a neuro-affirming manner, fostering an inclusive therapeutic environment that respects and supports neurodivergent individuals. Neurodivergence includes conditions such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Bipolar Disorder, Gender Diversity, and other neurological differences. At VCPS, we see neurodiversity as a natural variation in human experience, akin to differences in race, gender, or culture.
We are committed to providing care that empowers neurodivergent individuals by focusing on their strengths, talents, and personal goals. Our approach is rooted in acceptance and inclusion, challenging the traditional medical models that pathologise neurological differences. Our psychologists, counsellors, and reception staff continuously educate themselves on neurodiversity, and we actively work to create safe, sensory-friendly spaces that cater to the needs of all our clients.
Our Neuro-Affirming Strategies Include:
- Ongoing Education: Continuously staying informed on the latest research and resources regarding neurodiversity, enabling us to better serve our clients.
- Awareness and Advocacy: Promoting neurodiversity awareness within our organisation and helping to destigmatise neurodivergent conditions.
- Person-Centred Care: Adopting a person-centred approach that honours each client’s unique needs, focusing on their strengths rather than viewing neurodivergent traits as deficits.
- Sensory-Friendly Environment: We strive to make our clinic environment welcoming to neurodivergent clients by providing sensory tools and accommodating individual sensory needs.
- Flexible Communication and Treatment: Tailoring our communication style and therapeutic strategies to meet the specific preferences and needs of each client.
- Collaborative Decision-Making: Involving our clients in every step of their treatment process, fostering a sense of empowerment and ownership over their therapy.
- Emphasising Strengths: Recognising and celebrating each client’s unique abilities and achievements, helping them to build confidence and progress.
- Lived Experience: Many of our team members identify as neurodivergent themselves, bringing authentic, lived experience to our practice. We believe this personal insight is key to providing genuine, compassionate care.
At VCPS, we celebrate diversity in all its forms and strive to create an inclusive, understanding environment where every client feels valued and supported. We are proud to be a neuro-affirming organisation, dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of our neurodivergent clients with empathy, flexibility, and respect.
